Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a fascinating and powerful technology for healing psychological damage caused by traumatic events. It is clinically proven to treat emotional trauma that results from war, physical and sexual abuse, accidents, disasters, as well as events throughout one’s life that lead to symptoms like low self-esteem and performance anxiety.

When a traumatic event occurs it often getslocked in the nervous system thereby disrupting one’s ability to process information in a healthy way. As a result, a person may develop erroneous beliefs about himself or the world which cause him to act unskillfully. These beliefs are often accompanied by irrational emotions, blocked energy and physical symptoms.

EMDR effectively transforms these symptoms by activating the memory of the traumatic event and adding alternate eye movements or other bilateral stimulation(BLS). BLS acceleratesinformation processing in the nervous system in such a way that it unlocks the neural pathways that store the traumatic material. The restoration of the natural flow of information through these pathways usually offers the client a more rational and healthy relationship to the traumatic event.

If we decide together that EMDR is good choice for you, we will schedule one fifty minute session to introduce you to the technique and answer questions and then schedule a one and a half hour session when you are ready for the first treatment. Additional session may be appropriate to complete the first treatment and desirable for further transformation.
